Kitchen Furniture handcrafted from Oak
Rick Forward is a master craftsman, who works wonders in beautiful, recycled wood. We came across him and some of his work in 2018, at a stand he had taken at a Cambridge Fair. I fell in love with the furniture he had on display, especially a cupboard in an Arts & Crafts style: simple design in beautiful recycled oak.
We told him we'd like to discuss replacing various kitchen cupboards and worktops. It was immediately obvious when he sat with us at home that he was knowledgeable and loved what he did. We asked him to give us quotes for various combinations; one of many aspects we were impressed with was that in giving us his assessment of the various options he didn't favour the most expensive. He quickly sent us a detailed and comprehensive document. We decided to go ahead and booked into his busy schedule.
The installation process was smooth and pain free. Rick was very well prepared and it took a little over two days. We are now in possession of a beautiful, completely transformed kitchen, arrived at through easy consultation, in an affable and workable three-way process.
Rick is talented, committed to excellence and a thoroughly likeable man. What more could you ask for? He also likes cake.

Ash Kitchen with Minerva worktop
We love our kitchen. Rick really listened to what we wanted, a sustainable kitchen with no MDF and minimum plastic. He has vast experience and his design suggestions were very useful.

Kitchen and Utility Room Furniture handcrafted from reclaimed pine
It's over a year now since you were in Scotland to make our kitchen and utility room furniture. I just wanted to tell you how pleased we are with it and how much we have been enjoying it. We have had lots of favourable comments from family and friends when they have visited. It has really worked well for us and the dogs also love it, with a warm bed under the shelf by the radiator and a view of the garden! It is both attractive and practical and I have only needed to oil the wood once in the year.

Green Eco Kitchens made from reclaimed pine
It's really hard to get an environmentally friendly kitchen. Finding alternatives to MDF and chipboard is near impossible. Rick Forward (New from Old) produces custom made-to-measure green kitchens from reclaimed pine (or other FSC sourced wood).
My kitchen is made from an old church roof and looks great - the worktops are higher than normal, the worktops deeper than normal and there is no dead space between cabinets (which is a feature of standard kitchens from MFI, B&Q, etc). I think I was most surprised by the price, which was not that much more than an MFI kitchen and is much better than that. Rick is well connected with material sources - to make my kitchen a little cheaper, MDF was used for the insides of some cabinets, but we used formaldehyde free MDF.
Not only an excellent eco-kitchen but New from Old also offers a good after sales service - Rick puts in a lot of effort to ensure the kitchen is just right.

Bespoke solid hardwood kitchen furniture
It has been an absolute pleasure working with Rick from start to finish. As well as being exceptionally knowledgeable and working to the highest possible standards, he was at every stage attentive to our requests and produced a really outstanding set of kitchen furniture. Due to a disastrous mishap by careless builders it was necessary to ask Rick back to remove and subsequently reinstall the kitchen to allow for structural repair work. I can't thank him enough for the care and attention with which he undertook this monumental challenge, making a stressful situation bearable, and seeming to take every task in his stride.

Bespoke handbuilt and handpainted kitchen
New From Old refurbished our kitchen and the project was a challenge in every respect. The existing kitchen was more than 40 years old and it was essential that any changes should be sympathetic to and compatible with the rest of the house, which is nearly 200 years old and a listed building. Uneven floors and ceilings and no true walls were just some of the obstacles that needed careful thought and attention to detail. Rick Forward redesigned the kitchen to include a complete range of base units with granite worktops, incorporating all electrical appliances, belfast sink, breakfast bar and large dresser. The kitchen was installed by Rick at a distance, in the middle of the most trying weather conditions during the cold snap in December 2010. Rick spent a lot of time and trouble in accommodating our requirements throughout the process and we are delighted with the outcome.
Jane Davenport in Amsterdam says:
We wanted to let you know that the bed arrived safely, boxed up very securely, this weekend. We managed to assemble without too much trouble (thank you for the great instructions) and we have now had a perfect nights sleep in our new bed! We couldn't be happier with the end results. The bed is absolutely beautiful and without a doubt the nicest piece of furniture we own. We are so impressed with the skill and craftsmanship gone in to producing such a wonderful piece of furniture and we can't thank you enough! I'm so glad I found your website!

Affordable bespoke hand made kitchen
Having lived with a kitchen with no sink for nearly a year it was our good fortune to meet Rick at the Wimpole Hall Christmas market. On display was a fantastic kitchen unit complete with sink and taps, which we initially thought would be way out of our price range but we were very pleased to discover it wasn't! We discussed a brief outline of our plans for a kitchen with Rick and arranged for a time for him to visit to discuss further and see our kitchen. Rick arrived, on time, with his portfolio and some really great ideas, especially to plan around a rather awkward post in the middle of the floor! Rick then put together detailed drawings of the proposed plan for the kitchen and sent us a quote. We opened the quote, with the thought - "Oh well, we know what we can't have then". To our surprise it was fantastic value. A bespoke hand made kitchen was in reach. We visited Rick at his home to iron out the final details and pick materials, a quick tour of his work shop really sealed the deal. True craftsmanship. A date was set to start the work and to finish, both of which went without a glitch. Everyone who visits us has commented on our kitchen and it is without a doubt the best room in the house and where we spend most of our time. We are so pleased with the result, and look forward to many years with our hand made kitchen.

Solid Ash Kitchen Furniture
A short note to say how pleased I am with the beautiful free-standing Ash kitchen furniture. The finish is amazing, great care and attention has clearly gone into the manufacture, each piece of every panel has been carefully chosen for grain and colouring, making the cabinets wonderfully interesting to look at. Additionally, Rick brought a calm authority and much patience to the whole process from initial concept to final delivery, for which I was very grateful. Given the high quality of work, I think many people would be surprised to find how affordable bespoke furniture from New from Old is. Highly recommended and thanks again!
Andrew Taylor (Huntingdon):
I have been a customer of New From Old for about 15 years, and in that time have only ever been thoroughly satisfied. The first piece was a Dresser (1997) which still gets admiring glances and the last piece (2012) a Library which is just superb. I can only recommend New From Old in the highest possible terms, excellence throughout.

Many thanks for the units - they are beautiful to look at and to use. You had clearly listened very carefully to what we wanted and thought about the space, the room as a whole and how we wanted to use the units.
